Hello,

This is the weekly email from the Houston Downtown Management District with a summary of street closures approved by the City of Houston for downtown due to construction, building maintenance or special events.

This email does not list all special events in downtown--only those that close lanes or have a major impact on mobility in the streets and sidewalks. Please distribute this information in your building or organization so people can know before they go.

Short-term closure this weekend for construction or maintenance.

The 1000 and 1100 blocks of Polk (Main to San Jacinto) will be closed again this weekend as it was last weekend. The closure begins Friday night, June 20, 2008 at 7 pm and continues until Monday morning, June 23 at 5 am. The closure is to continue construction of a pedestrian sky walk from the Pavilions to their parking garage. This is suppose to be the final weekend of a three-weekend series.

Closures For Special Events

1. Late Friday evening, June 20, 2008, the first annual HPD Moonlight Classic Bike Ride will close streets along its route. The ride will start at 10 pm and end by 12 midnight at the Downtown Aquarium. The ride will loop around the route below.

* Bagby between Preston and Prairie - 7 pm to 1 am
* Prairie at Smith - 7 pm to 1 am
* Preston at Franklin - 8 pm to 1 am
* Bagby between Franklin and Texas - 8 pm to 1 am
* Memorial Drive (inbound and outbound) between Bagby and Shepherd Drive - 9 pm - 12 am

Some day this will be one of those favorite events in downtown. If you participate this year you will get the first T-shirt and the pride of helping fund training for the largest group of first responders in our area. They are there for us every day. We need to be there for them Friday night. Click here for more info and links to register.

2. Saturday morning, June 21, 2008, the Juneteenth Freedom Festival Parade will close streets from 10 am to 12 noon. The parade begins on Texas at La Branch, proceeds south on La Branch, east on McKinney, north on Crawford and concludes on Crawford at Texas. Staging and disbanding areas will be on Texas between La Branch and Hamilton and on Hamilton between Texas and Preston.
