Traffic Signal Synchronization - Occasionally drivers ask about the street light synchronization and why it does not seem to be correct on the street they use. There is a long technical answer why some streets work and others do not that has to do with mathematical progressions and is beyond the scope of this web site. The way to know if the street you use is one of the streets where the lights are synchronized is to look for METRO bus stops where their sign shows many route numbers serve that stop. Those streets have the best synchronization. If your street does not then use one that does. How you can help - Occasionally you will arrive to find that your street that was synchronized is no longer and all you see ahead is a mix of red and green lights. Likely that is after a thunderstorm when lighting has caused power blips and one or more of the computers, in the silver boxes on the sidewalk, are messed up. You can issue the work order to the City traffic signal guys by emailing 311@houstontx.gov and tell them the intersection where you saw the problem. The City has a good record of having the computers back in time and the lights synchronized by the time you go home that same day. |
